Friday Fragments

It's Friday and time for Mrs. 4444's Friday Fragments excitement. I am full of shit fragments this week!

  • Stellan is home from the hospital.
  • I went out to dinner with some friends last night and was getting dressed while my husband was in the room.  When I was all dressed he said, "How many guys hit on you when you go out?"  I laughed and said, "None!" in a rather disappointed tone (though we aren't really at restaurants where a cougar-mama is going to get hit on.  Maybe we need to try a few clubs around town, instead!).  He responded with, "Well, that's too bad because I think you are HOT!"  Isn't he nice.
  • Thanks to Catherine at Evolving Mommy!  I won her contest for a $25 gift certificate to EcoStore.  I can't wait to shop for some eco-friendly supplies.
  • Thanks to Rose at Delightfully Inappropriate, I learned how to thread my eyebrows. She answered my questions, gave me tips and sent me a link to the video she learned from. I watched and within about ten minutes I was threading away! I was amazed that it didn't hurt ONE bit. None. Nada. Zilch. If I hadn't seen some of the hairs fall to the sink top or if I hadn't heard the little "pop," which I assume is the hair root being yanked from it's home, I would have thought nothing was happening. I did get a little overzealous and yanked out a hunk that definitely should have remained attached to my brow, but thankfully, I am able to succesfully create a "comb over" until it grows back.
  • We had four days in a row of beautiful weather. This resulted in me digging out some summer clothes. It's amazing that five little extra pounds (at least it's only five according to the scale) can make everything fit all wrong! So I went out and bought a few new things , which I need anyway since I am going to be cleaning out my closets and getting rid of just about everything and starting over.
  • Big E has two coaches for his baseball team. They are good friends, but different personalities. They are both very positive, but one is more likely to yell things like "Get your head in the game!" "What were you doing?" "Run faster!" while the other coach shouts "It's ok, you'll get it next time!" type comments. The "you'll get it next time" coach is one of the most mild mannered men I have ever met. So it was with great shock and surprise when he totally lost it the other night (with one of the umpires, not a player) and was thrown out of the game and practically escorted from the ball park. He is now suspended for two games. I have to chuckle every time I think about it because it was SO out of character for him. Thankfully, he has been able to chuckle about it, too. And he did apologize to the parents and the kids.
  • I noticed CJ's bangs looked a little funny. I called him over and took a closer look. Yep, they looked like they had been given a home shearing. He just got his hair cut a couple of days before I noticed the funkiness of his new bangs and I knew this just didn't look right. Our conversation went like this:
Me: "Did you cut your hair?"
    CJ: "I don't know."
Me: "Did you cut your hair?"
    CJ: "I don't know."
Me: "I need you to tell me if you cut your hair." (Of course, I can tell by the look on his face he is hiding the truth, as if the hair wasn't obvious enough.)
CJ: "Well, are you going to be mad?"
I couldn't help but crack up and neither could my husband. After much conversation we got the full story. He went upstairs with the intention of cutting his hair with the electric trimmers that my husband uses to trim his beard. He even showed MG where his hiding place in the closet was for the actual trimming AND where he "hid" the hair. There was indeed a little pile of CJ's hair right there in our closet. In this picture you can see where he shaved up into his hair. leaving a thin, but not quite bald, spot.  He admitted to hiding the hair because he "didn't want to get in trouble."

  • "What do y'all think of this season's maxi dress? I really like them, but being 5'3", I am not sure I can pull it off. I don't mind having to get something hemmed, which I would need to do or else it would have a train on it, but I am still concerned I will be swallowed whole by this dress. I'll have to check out a few to make my final decision. Although, if that background of blue skies and ocean waters comes with the dress, I don't care how far the damn dress drags behind me, I'll take it!

    1. Love, love, love the dress!

Is it something you found online, or are they in most stores nowadays?

    2. We've had two separate scissor incidents. One was the sister's hair, one was the brother's finger. The scissors are now locked away. I hadn't thought of the trimmers. Ugh.

The dress is cute, but I'd look 8 months pg in that sort of thing.

    3. I love the whole maxi dress idea, but I have so much to max that it would look like a tent on me....

    4. It's a cute dress, but I could never pull it off. Not with my body style. It'd look like potatoes in a sack on me.

My 12 year old did that same cut last year. We just shaved all his hair off after I made him walk around like that for a day. He's yet to touch scissors or the razor again. :)

    6. What a sweetie your hubby is! :)

But yes, I have noticed that my summer clothes are a bit shorter, and the sleeves are a bit bunched up. hrmmm.....

My niece cut her bangs once...haha, ... it's kinda cute when they do that.

    7. I'm right there with you on the maxi dress- I think they're so cute, but they look like a muumuu on me! AND 5 lbs on short people is huge- I'm speaking for myself! I am very intrigued by threading your eyebrows yourself!! How cute are your son's uneven bangs!

    8. I love the dress but, and there's always a but (and in this case a big one which may be the problem) I wonder if someone short like myself (5'2") and lets just say, pleasantly plump, wouldn't look like she was wearing something made by Omar the TentMaker.
I'm very interested in this threading eyebrow thingie though! DO tell!! Just don't tell CJ - lol!!

    9. Yeah, those dresses swallow me whole & I'm 5'5", still not quite tall enough, I think.

And WHY is it when kids cut their own hair & you call them out on it, their response is "I dunno"....

Threading your brows! How cool! I'll have to check it out!

And how sweet of your man to tell you you're HOT!

    10. Am I totally out of the loop? Eyebrow threading?

    11. I am too old (or at least have too big of boobs) to wear that dress, but I love it!

Your husband is suuuuper sweet. Eyebrow threading? I had it done at a mall once, and it was PURE TORTURE! Still going to check out that video, though.

You are a funny one; thanks for sharing your humor :) Your award looks GREAT in here, doesn't it?!

    12. Wonderful news about Stellan!
MG guy knows just what to say,he is awesome, you are lucky.
Congrats on the gift card, I know you will put it to good use.
I am glad I don't have to worry about my eyebrows. Not only are they thin, but they're light blond too.
Stupid winter for shrinking our clothes.. my shits not fitting either:
Poor coach! Stress is everywhere, he just had to release. Good thing it was not at a player.

CJ has what's known as Brain Damage" I'm sure you have seen "Bill Cosby as Himself"
That's what the conversation reminds me of.

I DO love the dress! I even like the color and I'm not a purple fan

    13. Ha! I love when I see kids come to school after cutting their own hair!

Also, I think the dress is gorgeous, but just cannot carry off that full length look. ugh

    14. Going backwards:

Dress--am 5'4" myself, and I tried on a maxi dress at Old Navy the other day...I looked like Mama Harper in a house dress.

Haircut--It reminds me of the Bill Cosby "Himself" routine when his son cuts his hair and keeps saying "I don't know" to all the questions!

Brows--I need to double check your Saturday post about do-it-yourself to get this accomplished. Is it really as easy as you make it out to be?! Woo-hoo!

Cougar Mom--I think I would have jumped MG right there if I had been you...what a lovely compliment!
